North Korea
2018
Back in 2018, I visited the DPRK out of a curiosity I had carried since childhood. At the time, I was studying Journalism, and I recognized that the opportunity to travel there might become much more difficult once I graduated. This trip marked my earliest serious photographic work, documenting the experience as a student just beginning to explore photography as a medium.

In the years since, the political situation in the country has deteriorated, and the regime has further restricted access to the country. The number of foreigners visitiors has significantly decreased, and Western journalists have been unable to enter since late 2019.

I’m looking to revisit this self-assigned project, the first of my career. Until the situation “improves,” this is what remains.
