A strange New Year’s Eve
31/12/2023 - 01/01/2024On the night of December 31, 2023, the far-right party VOX, through a network of figureheads and affiliated organizations, organized a public event that attracted hundreds of far-right supporters to “welcome” the New Year in front of the Socialist Party headquarters in Madrid.

The party was hosted by Isaac and María, two disinformation figures with ties to the party. VOX’s communication staff also participated, overseeing the event’s logistics.

What began as a celebration soon turned into a pseudo-fascist protest, fueled by alcohol, chants, piñatas, and Francoist symbols. Intoxicated, violent ultras shouted insults at the press, the President, and left-wing individuals. A piñata in the likeness of Pedro Sánchez was destroyed, and sweets were scattered across the ground while fascists sang politically charged songs. A group of mariachi musicians added to the atmosphere, playing traditional rancheras.

Authorities are now investigating the incident to determine whether the actions could constitute hate crimes or threats.
